Finding ways to make money as a teenager can be challenging, but thanks to the internet, there are easy online jobs for teens to make extra money.
Whether you’re saving up for a new gadget, wanting to gain some work experience, or simply looking to earn some pocket money, online jobs can be a perfect solution. The best part? You can do these jobs from the comfort of your home, on your own schedule.
In this blog post, I’ll share some of the easiest online jobs for teens that require minimal to no experience. These are jobs that I (as a teenager), or teens I know, have successfully tried and tested. From freelance writing to tutoring and even participating in online surveys, there’s something here for everyone.
10 EASY ONLINE JOBS FOR TEENS
1. FREELANCE WRITING
Freelance writing tops my list of easy online jobs for teens. Why? Because it’s how I started making money online! My first online job was as an entry-level freelance writer on Upwork when I was 18.
As a freelance writer, you can create articles, blog posts, or even social media content for businesses. The great news is that you don’t need previous experience to get started. What’s crucial is having a portfolio of writing samples. When I started, I focused on writing product descriptions and reviews.
If you’re unsure about which niche to write in, don’t worry. Explore freelancing platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, and Freelancer to see what clients are looking for and what services other freelancers are offering. This can give you ideas and help you find your niche.
Remember, the more you write, the better you’ll become, and the more you can charge for your services. I started out charging $10 per 1000 words. I’m not even embarrassed by that. It was years ago and I was happy to have an easy online job.
If you have a real passion for writing, start doing free courses online to improve yourself. Hubspot has a lot of free courses you can do. Build your reputation as a great freelance writer and before you know it, you could do it as a full time gig!
2. YOUTUBE CONTENT CREATOR
YouTube is a goldmine for creative teens and you don’t have to be in front of the camera. This is an easy online job for teens because you can literally create a channel about anything.
Whether you’re into gaming, beauty tutorials, or vlogging your daily life, there’s an audience out there waiting for you. Teens are even making money from YouTube channels about Minecraft! So whatever you’re into, someone else will be too.
With consistency and quality content, you can eventually monetize your YouTube channel.
Keep in mind that if you’re under 18 years, you won’t be able to monetize the channel on your own. But don’t give up just yet! Your parent can link your YouTube channel to their Google account.
To monetize your YouTube channel, you need to meet these requirements:
1,000 Subscribers: Have at least 1,000 subscribers.
4,000 Watch Hours: Accumulate over 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months.
Follow Policies: Adhere to YouTube’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and copyright rules.
Join the YouTube Partner Program: Apply and get accepted into the program.
Google AdSense Account: Set up and link a Google AdSense account.
2-Step Verification: Enable 2-step verification on your Google account.
3. ONLINE TUTORING
I wish I had taken up tutoring as a teenager. It’s one of the best overnight remote jobs for extra money. I was really good at science in high school and could have made a good amount of money doing online tutoring jobs as a teen.
If you know a lot about a particular subject, tutoring is a great online job for teens. Websites like Pear Deck Tutor and Tutor.com are great places to start your journey as an online tutor.
If you prefer not to use a website for online tutoring, no problem! You can still offer your tutoring services directly. Start by spreading the word on social media—post about your tutoring skills on Facebook, Instagram, or local community groups.
You can also create some eye-catching flyers or posters and put them up around your neighborhood or school.
Use free tools like Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype for the actual tutoring sessions. Let people know what subjects you’re good at, your available times, and how much you charge.
Word-of-mouth is powerful, so ask your friends to recommend you, even if they attend other schools. To keep things professional, make sure you have a quiet, well-lit space for your sessions.
4. ENGLISH TUTORING
If you’re good at English, either as your first language or as a strong second language, you can help others improve their skills through online English tutoring. It’s one of the easiest online jobs for teens because you’re already learning about it in school.
This is an easy online job for teens who excel in grammar, reading comprehension, and writing. Many students around the world are looking to improve their English for school, work, or travel, and they need native or fluent speakers to practice with.
You can sign up for platforms like Cambly, VIPKid, or Preply. These websites connect you with students from all over the globe who are eager to learn from you. Most platforms allow you to set your own rates and schedule, making it a flexible job that you can fit around your schoolwork.
No teaching certification is necessary for most of these platforms, but having a TEFL certificate can increase your credibility and potentially allow you to charge more.
If you prefer to go the independent route, promote your services on social media and local community boards. You can offer one-on-one sessions via Zoom or Skype, focusing on conversational practice, homework help, or preparing for English exams.
5. ONLINE SURVEYS AND MARKET RESEARCH
Another easy way for teens to earn money online is by participating in online surveys and market research studies.
Companies are always looking for consumer opinions to help improve their products and services, and they’re willing to pay for your time and insights. This is an easy online job for teens who have a little extra time!
Websites like Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, and Pinecone Research offer opportunities to earn money by completing surveys, watching videos, or testing new products.
Signing up is usually free, and you can start earning right away. The amount you earn per survey varies, but it typically ranges from $0.50 to $5, depending on the length and complexity of the survey.
While you won’t get rich from taking online surveys, it’s an easy way to make some extra cash in your spare time. Most surveys can be answered in a few minutes, so why not sign up for multiple survey sites at the same time?
6. SELLING HANDMADE CRAFTS
If you have a knack for creating beautiful handmade items, selling crafts online can be a fun and profitable way to earn money. This is an easy online job for teens who are artistic or crafty.
Whether you’re into making jewelry, knitting, painting, or crafting unique home decor items, there’s a market for handmade goods.
Platforms like Etsy, Amazon Handmade, and even eBay are great places to set up your online store. Take high-quality photos of your creations and write detailed descriptions to attract buyers.
Instagram and Pinterest are particularly effective for showcasing visually appealing crafts. You can also join online communities and forums related to your craft to network with potential customers and other creators.
Don’t forget to factor in shipping costs and time. Offering excellent customer service, such as prompt responses to inquiries and careful packaging of your items, can help build your reputation and lead to repeat business.
7. CREATE AN EBOOK
Creating eBooks is an easy online job for teens who love to write and want to share their ideas or stories with others.
Start by brainstorming ideas for your eBook. What are you passionate about? What knowledge or experience can you share that others might find valuable? Once you have your idea, outline the structure of your book to ensure it flows well and covers all the necessary points.
You don’t need to be a professional writer to create an eBook. Write in your own voice and keep your audience in mind. Use free tools like Google Docs or Canva to format your eBook and make it visually appealing. Adding images, charts, or infographics can enhance the reader’s experience.
When your eBook is ready, you can publish it on platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and Smashwords. You can then promote your eBook through social media.
8. SELL SHOES FOR CASH
If you have a passion for fashion and want to make some extra money, selling shoes you already own can be a great way to earn cash. This is an easy online job for teens with gently worn shoes that are still in good condition. Whether sneakers, boots, or dress shoes, there’s a market for pre-loved footwear.
Start by going through your closet and selecting shoes that you no longer wear but are still in good shape. Clean them up to make them look as presentable as possible.
Take high-quality photos from multiple angles and write detailed descriptions, including the brand, size, condition, and any unique features.
List your shoes on platforms like eBay, Poshmark, or Depop, where you can reach a wide audience of potential buyers. Price your items competitively by researching similar listings to see what other sellers are asking for comparable shoes.
9. CUSTOMER SERVICE
Working in customer service is a great way for teens to gain valuable work experience and earn money online. Many companies hire remote customer service representatives to handle inquiries, provide support, and assist with orders. This job requires good communication skills, patience, and a helpful attitude.
To find online customer service jobs, check out job boards like Indeed, Remote.co, or FlexJobs. Look for entry-level positions or those specifically geared towards teens. Companies in various industries, from retail to tech, are often looking for customer service reps to work part-time or on a flexible schedule.
Your responsibilities may include answering phone calls, responding to emails, or assisting customers through live chat. Training is usually provided, so you’ll learn about the company’s products, services, and customer service protocols.
10. WEBSITE TESTING
If you enjoy exploring websites and have an eye for detail, website testing can be an easy online job for teens. Companies want to ensure their websites are user-friendly and free of bugs, so they pay testers to give feedback on their site’s functionality and design. This job requires minimal experience, making it perfect for teens looking to earn some extra cash.
To get started, sign up on platforms like UserTesting, UserPeek, or Testbirds. These websites connect testers with companies that need feedback on their sites. After creating a profile, you may need to complete a sample test to demonstrate your ability to follow instructions and provide useful feedback.
When you receive a testing assignment, you’ll typically be asked to complete specific tasks on the website, such as navigating through different pages, finding information, or making a purchase.
You’ll record your screen and voice as you go through the tasks, explaining what you’re doing and why. Your feedback should be honest and detailed, pointing out any issues or areas for improvement.
Teens spend so much time online that there’s no one better to get feedback from.
WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS
While there are many legitimate opportunities for teens to make money online, it’s crucial to be aware of potential scams. Scammers often target inexperienced individuals with promises of easy money, so it’s important to stay vigilant.
Always research any company or platform before signing up. Look for reviews, testimonials, and ratings on trusted websites or forums. If an opportunity sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Beware of sites that ask for upfront fees or personal information such as your Social Security number, bank details, or home address.
Legitimate job platforms and employers will not require you to pay to start working or ask for sensitive information without a valid reason.
Use secure payment methods and avoid sharing financial details directly with strangers. It’s also helpful to consult with a parent or guardian before committing to any online job. They can help you evaluate the opportunity’s legitimacy and ensure your safety.
Finding easy online jobs as a teen can open up a world of opportunities, allowing you to earn money, gain valuable skills, and even discover new passions.
Whether you’re interested in freelance writing, selling handmade crafts, or tutoring, there’s a job out there that fits your interests and schedule. Remember to stay safe and vigilant to avoid scams, and take the time to research and find the right opportunities for you.
